Meet the Gray Family: Dad Jon, Mum Jenn, Baby Florence and Candy the Yorkie – together they are @caravanning_with_candy, sharing their Elddis caravan escapades.
Caravanning – and Elddis – has been in Jon’s blood from birth! Now a father himself, he recently shared a fab picture of himself, in his pram, proudly posed alongside his parents’ Elddis Tornado and Volvo 340 towcar.
Over 3 decades later, in Elddis’ 60th Anniversary year, Jon and Jenn have just taken delivery of a brand new, 8ft-wide, Elddis Avante 840 – the Pearman Briggs Magnum GT special limited edition, to be precise, towed by their trusty Volvo XC90.
The family had their eye on this 6-berth layout for a while, taken with Elddis’ great use of space for families–
Together, they travelled to Pearman Briggs in Gloucestershire to collect their dream caravan – the wait was over!
They said:
“Cassie the Compass was traded in to Pearman Briggs and we collected our brand new Elddis Magnum GT 840. The dealership has been faultless from start to finish. They may be 4.5hrs from us, but the level of service made it worthwhile.
“We love it!! The extra space is great, and the initial tow was so smooth compared to the single axle. Florence is happy with her bigger bed, which she’ll probably have to share with Candy once we all go away together. One night test in the Caravan and Motorhome Club’s Cheltenham racecourse then back home.
“We all sat around the dining table with our spaghetti bolognaise and realised why this layout is so suited to us. A dedicated eating area AND a dedicated lounge!”
Jon and Jenn praised the Avante’s ‘superb stability’ on what was a blustery drive home. They also called into Trailervision UK to have blind spot cameras set up, which were great on the way home -offering much better visibility along the sides of the caravan.
The family wasted no time in getting away on their first family adventure in their new Elddis caravan – the stunning sights and spectacular scenery of Scotland beckoned!
Right before they set off, the family were awestruck by the Aurora Borealis the UK was treated to and snapped some pictures of their new pride and joy bathed in the pink and purple rays of this rare-to-the-UK phenomenon.
The drive up to Scotland posed no issues (bar the toddler v canine spat that ensued over toys) and the caravan ‘towed superbly well’.
Navigating the Scottish roads, Jon and Jenn said:
*“First long distance on narrower roads with the 8ft wide van… Does it make a difference? Not really, the last van was fairly long and only marginally narrower. There’s a lot of hype about the extra width, but it’s negligible.
“The caravan looks great over Rannoch moor and, in Glencoe, at the Three Sisters viewpoint, our Elddis was being admired by some German tourists.
“Upon arrival we got to try out our new Camptech Hastings 450 air sun canopy. Easy to pitch, even in the pouring rain for its first time. Lovely product, quality fabric and looks great!”*
Bunree, north of Oban on the west coast of Scotland is the perfect base for exploring and simply enjoying the peace and quiet and the magnificent surroundings – even when the weather’s dreich!
As we all know, cosying up in the caravan when it’s rainy outside is a joyous thing, and Florence and Candy – last thing we heard – were snuggled up contentedly, feasting on bacon and eggs … and Waggon Wheels!
