Inspiration: Romantische Straße, Germany.

Designed for travellers seeking the ultimate road trip back in the 1950s, 70 years later the Romantische Straße doesn’t disappoint.

Traversing the forests and mountains of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, the route takes in picture-postcard towns, fairytale castles and historic landscapes. So many jewels adorn this 350km drive, it’s become the ultimate European bucketlist roadtrip, from the Würzburg Residence at the northernmost end to Linderhof Palace near Oberammergau (another must-see) in the South.

Suggested eats:

Whilst our Colleagues at Erwin Hymer Group in Germany crave our British fish and chips when they come over to visit us in Britain, we can vouch for the Swabian comfort food in this southern region of Germany!

On your travels we recommend you try the ubiquitous Spätzle in its various forms, Flammkuchen and the similar Dinnete, Maultaschen (a Swabian ravioli), Kartoffelsuppe – and of course the magnificently moreish Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte. It’s hearty food, so make the most of the many hiking opportunities and bike rides en-route!

Don’t miss:

The most photographed section of the Romantische Straße must be Neuschwanstein Castle – which would be hard to miss. This Disney-esque castle is a spectacular sight at any time of year!

The Castle’s Marienbrücke (Queen Mary’s Bridge) was built in 1845 and offers fantastic views of the castle – if you have a head for heights!
