Handover day is always an exciting experience, especially when it’s the first day of a new life and a year-long motorhome adventure!
The Ballards are a family of 4 from Lincoln, but about to leave the UK for the roadtrip of a lifetime.
“Modern life with jobs and family commitments often means that we’re not getting the most out of the things that are important to us and life is short! So, we decided to jump out of the rat race and live life a little differently for a year…
“We’re sold our home and nearly all of our possessions to live life on the road in our new Compass Avantgarde motorhome!.. And we want to take people on the journey with us. We want to share everything to show everyone it is possible, even with a young family.”
First stop, Kimberley Caravans in Darlington – where the Ballards were presented with their new Avantgarde motorhome, from which they will blog for the next 12 months.
The year-long European escapade will take in historic cities, national parks, hidden beaches and mountain views, so it’s important that Mum Mel and Dad Scott know the finer details of the motorhome and how everything works as they head off with kids Rufus (5) and Riley (nearly 2).
The friendly and knowledgeable team at Kimberley gave Mel and Scott a thorough handover, explaining how everything works in the motorhome and demonstrating the new innovations in the Avantgarde, whilst Emma and Rachel from Compass enjoyed some delicious lunch in Kimberley's lovely cafe with Rufus and Riley and tried to calm their excitement!
The Ballards were even treated to a trolley dash around Kimberley's well-stocked accessories store, so they're well equipped for the adventure ahead.
The Compass Avantgarde 196 is well-suited to their family, with both a front and rear lounge and an electric drop down bed, with 3 sleeping areas for up to 6 people in total!
The kitchen is well-equipped for cooking on-the-go and experimenting with foodie finds from the local markets on their travels.
The on-board bathroom is complete with shower, basin and toilet, so the Ballards can be spontaneous and enjoy a mix of campsite and wild camping in total comfort.
Here at Compass we’ve added on a few extras to make a year-long adventure even better: Cab air conditioning, passenger air bag, Cruise Control, Fiamma 4-bike rack, rear view system, Winter Pack, cab blinds, alarm system, Tracker, microwave, external gas barbecue point and Alloy wheels.
We’ve also added a Gaslow system, which we recommend for long-term overseas travel.
The Ballards have been up to the factory several times: first to visit the factory and meet our team on our motorhome production line to see how their motorhome is built; then to our Factory Open Weekend in September to take a full Factory tour and see the new 2020 Season line-up, including their Avantgarde 196.
The Ballards – aka Marmalade Tour - are thrilled to be blogging for Compass and will be sharing their updates and videos on all Social Media channels.
Follow their journey, which will include advice on motorhome life and travelling with children – and if you’re thinking of a similar adventure – chat with the Ballards about their experiences as they go!
