The COVID pandemic has forced many to re-evaluate their career path. Whether you are currently unemployed, facing redundancy or simply seeking a better work/life balance, find inspiration in the stories of our Colleagues.
The outbreak of COVID-19 has spurred many to re-evaluate their career path. Agnieszka is a great example – and a great ambassador for Erwin Hymer Group. Agnieszka previously worked as a senior Beauty Therapist and now works on Erwin Hymer Group’s new state-of-the-art Campervan Line (part of the recent £15m investment in the manufacturing plant). Testing alarm systems, preparing wiring and pipes are now all in a day’s work for Agnieszka… and she’s loving every minute!
After several years working in a Customer Call Centre environment, Sean made the life-changing decision to go back to College and retrain for a new career. He successfully achieved his City and Guilds Diploma in Electrical Installation and secured his role as an Electrical Designer, based in Erwin Hymer Group’s R&D Department – which he has enjoyed for the last 3 years. Sean loves the buzz of seeing design concepts through to production and their public launch.
John joined Erwin Hymer Group in March 2021, having previously worked for one of the UK’s largest Supermarkets. John is the first to admit, he feels like a different person – he finally has a good work/life balance. His supermarket past included weekends, early mornings and late nights… even 5am starts on Boxing Day. In his new role as Warehouse Operative at Erwin Hymer Group, John feels refreshed, revitalised and raring to go! Erwin Hymer Group has given John Tugger Truck and FLT training, with Reach Truck training next. John is already feeling a great sense of achievement and team spirit, supplying the Production Line and being an integral part of the Manufacturing process.
Gavin left school on a Friday, aged 16, and started work the following Monday – working on building sites and in Construction. He’s a self-confessed grafter, so when he was made redundant after 22 years at a well-known local factory he quickly secured another job in the packaging industry. 8 years later, however, COVID-19 struck and Gavin once again faced redundancy. A local man, Gavin knows and has grown up with people who work at Erwin Hymer Group and they encouraged him to come to one of the EHG Open Day recruitment events. Gavin’s drive and determination shone through and, with 30 years’ of transferable skills, he is now an asset to the EHG Warehousing Team!
Daniel refers to Erwin Hymer Group as his first job – but he has previously worked in Sales and Retail, prior to which he was in the Armed Forces. With the growth of Erwin Hymer Group and its recent £15m investment in its Consett facility, a family member (who works in the factory) recommended Daniel apply to join the team. Daniel was worried at his lack of experience, but Erwin Hymer were quick to channel his enthusiasm and determination – and to give Daniel the tools and training he needs to progress his career with us.
Redundancy can come as a huge shock, but great opportunities can arise, as Neal attests. Neal has enjoyed a distinguished career in the Oil and Gas Industry, in roles such as Production and Engineering Support Manager. Erwin Hymer Group’s growth created the ideal opportunity for Neal, whose transferable skills and enthusiasm are perfectly suited to his appointed role as Process Manager in our Machine Shop, supplying our Caravan, Motorhome and Campervan Lines.
Emma joined Erwin Hymer Group having worked as a Store Manager for a well-known High St retailer, bringing with her an abundance of skills which enabled her to hit the ground running in her role as Marketing Assistant. Emma’s role in the Erwin Hymer team involves a great deal of interaction with Customers, our Retailers and our Colleagues in both the UK and Europe – so her background in Retail and transferable skills are an asset to us.
