Position:

Senior Production Manager

 

Main Purpose of the job

To manage the day-to-day running of production – To meet all HSE, production, quality and continuous improvement targets.

Responsibilities:

Planning and Control

To ensure that internal manufactured materials are supplied in line with production schedules

Ensure that shortages are minimised and productivity optimised

To establish labour manpower figures to accord with production targets and agreed budgets

Agree and authorise manning levels put forward by process managers

Maintain control of manpower budget with specific reference to overhead/ overtime costs

Staff to be self-motivated towards achieving set targets/objectives

Operational

Achievement of production targets within agreed budget and to agreed standards

Process Managers to receive achievable production targets

Monitoring actual production against planned production and reporting deviation from plans to the Production Director

Establish procedures that support the production of high quality products (Introduction of production systems and processes that maximise quality and productivity whilst ensuring that all costs are controlled)

Providing input to the strategic direction of the production, site engineering, health & safety and despatch areas in terms of growth, performance etc

Provide support to all managers, team leaders and technical staff reporting directly to you

All managers, team leaders and technical staff reporting directly to you, to be given measurable objectives and necessary resources to achieve them

Maintain an effective employee Performance Management System

Communications

Promote and Maintain an effective communication throughout production

Regular review /objective setting meetings held with all Managers, team leaders and technical staff

Encouragement of clear communication policy throughout the business

Develop and promote close working relationships with other areas of the business

Introduce clear procedures for interdepartmental working

Liaise with company directors to ensure that production decisions also take into account the overall company strategy

Health and Safety

To input into company strategy

Working in conjunction with the HSE Manager to ensure Risk assessment completed and actions driven for improvement

Support the introduction of any HSE change with the business

Keep informed of all HSE legislation that affect production areas and put in place action plans to change

Input into the Bi-Annual HSE meetings

Personnel

To promote a culture of continuous improvement in all staff for whom responsible

Continuous development of production management and selecting the correct improvement tool/course

Producing and maintaining the Competency Management Matrix for production management

Working in conjunction with the HR Manager to develop and promote best practice in respect of recruitment, dealing with absenteeism and discipline etc

Involvement in 5S & Continuous Improvement initiatives

Adhere to H&S Policy

Adhere to Company Handbook

Adhere to Quality Policy

Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures

Adhere to IT Policy

Involvement in training requests

Any other reasonable duties

Qualifications:           

Educated to degree level desirable

Operations Management diploma essential or qualified by experience at the appropriate level

Working knowledge of lean concepts, tools, methodology or other comparable continuous improvement programs

Ability to understand and manage a complex working production operation

Level 1 equivalent in English & Maths

Knowledge and Experience:

Production processes

Continuous improvement tools and techniques

Introduction and management of change

HSE legislation and process required in production

Employment law

Budget management

Capital expenditure and project management

Normal Hours of work: 

Mon - Thurs 08.00am - 17.00pm

Fri 08.00am - 13.00pm

39 Hours per week, The post holder would be required to work the hours necessary to fulfil the requirements of the role.

We operate shift systems of work and the successful candidate must be willing to work shift systems.
